2019 International Forum for Young Talents on Intelligent Robots and Systems

About the forum

 

The International Forum for Young Talents on Intelligent Robot and Systems sponsored by the Advanced Innovation Center for Intelligent Robots and Systems (BAICIRS) of Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) focuses on the frontier endeavors of intelligent robots and systems. This is an opportunity for highly accomplished young scholars with great potential and innovation capabilities exchange insights through academic talks and discussions and enhance cross-disciplinary cooperation. We hope this event will also be a channel for participants from across the world to know more about BAICIRS the bright career prospect at BIT.

 

Participation criteria (eligible applicants must meet one of the following criteria)

 

1. An eligible candidate must be: not above 40 years old (exceptions may be considered); PhD holder from prestigious Chinese or international university; working in a world-renowned university, science research institute or commercial R&D organization continuously for at least two years; or PhD candidate in a world-renowned university with exceptional academic achievements and considerable potential; or outstanding scholar in China who with the potential to become the pioneer of the field in question.

 

2. Young or middle-aged candidates of Changjiang Scholars Program and Top Young Talents Program ("Qing Nian Ba Jian Ren Cai"), laureates of Young Thousand Talents Program or Outstanding Youth Science Fund, or young and middle-aged scholars with equivalent level of achievement are qualified to apply.

Topics of academic talks 

 

Disciplines may include mechanics, electronics, control, computing, materials and other relevant subjects. Topics may include but are not limited to: bionic robotics, specialized robotics, medical robotics, micro-nano robotics, rehabilitation robotics, soft robotics, brain-computer interface (BCI), state-of-the-art and high-performance robot components, system control and integration and other topics on the theory, components, systems and applications of robots.

To apply as a participant, please send the sign-up form to baicirs@163.com. Both the E-mail and the form should contain “full name + Forum for Young Talents + the country you are currently based in + university you graduated from”. Experts at BAICIRS will evaluate the eligibility and research capabilities of applicants and send out invitation letters (before 15 Oct.).

 

Travel and accommodation

 

During the forum, BAICIRS will provide catering and accommodation for invitees as well as reimbursement for round-trip travel expenses (tickets shall be booked by the invitees). The travel expenses will be reimbursed per actual costs incurred but subject to the following upper limits: RMB15,000 for international travel within Asia Pacific and RMB20,000 for travel beyond the region. 

 

BIT’s talent policy and compensations

 

1. BIT’s “Xu Teli Young Scholars Sponsorship Program”

Successful applicants will be employed as doctoral supervisors and BIT will grant preferable considerations for recruiting postgraduate students including PhD and Masters candidates; for each year, BIT will allocate postdoctoral researcher employment quotas to the supervisor: one “team position” and one “scientific research position under central coordination” plus RMB1 million start-up fund for research work. In addition, BIT provides residency and welfare package to newly hired scholars who are rated as exceptional in university-level evaluation. The annual salary is at least RMB420,000, and BIT provides social insurance, occupational annuity and housing provident fund (RMB120,000 in total) and year-end performance-based bonus. The compensation level is raised dynamically per year.

 

2. BIT’s Sponsorship Program for Distinguished Young Faculty

Annual salary is at least RMB300,000-420,000. In addition, BIT provides social insurance, occupational annuity and housing provident fund (RMB100,000 in total), year-end performance-based bonus, RMB400,000 to RMB1 million of start-up fund for scientific research work, dynamic pay-raise system and helps solve practical problems including preschool and school education for children.

 

3. Postdoctoral Researcher Sponsorship Program 

Compensations include an annual salary of RMB250,000-400,000, social insurance and housing provident fund provided by BIT. In addition, BAICIRS provides a start-up fund for scientific research and helps solve practical issues including the hukou registration of the employee and the employee’s spouse and children, as well as preschool and school education for the employee’s children.

BIT was the first science and engineering university founded by the Communist Party of China, one of the key universities since the founding of the People’s Republic of China and one of the first batch of universities to enter the “211 project”, “985 Project” and the “Double First-class” type-A universities construction plan. In the 2018 QS World University Rankings, BIT was the 389th globally, 76th in Asia and 17th in Chinese Mainland. BAICIRS was among the first batch of 13 advanced innovation centers accredited by Beijing Municipal Education Commission. Focusing on national major technological demands and the global research fronts in intelligent robots and systems, and with supports from BIT, BAICIRS endeavors to make breakthroughs in theories and technologies of intelligent robots and systems, to yield solutions for a series of major and frontier scientific issues, and to make a number of original R&D achievements through cross-disciplinary integration, and develop intelligent service-oriented robot products.

 

It has an internationally influential team composed of two members of Chinese Academy of Science and Chinese Academy of Engineering, 13 IEEE fellows and 11 QR scholars. The center has achieved ground-breaking results in areas including micro-nano operator and artificial neural interface. In key technologies in medical assistance, elderly care, rehabilitation for the disabled and operation in special environments, we have made pioneering progress and demonstrated the R&D results. 

 

The center is located in the BIT Technology Park, where it is allocated with a space covering 12,000 m2 in total, and is furnished with a world-class research environment applicable for a wide range of activities including R&D, experiments and testings, international exchanges, demonstrations and exhibitions.

From 1 to 2 November 2019, the 2019 IEEE International Conference on Advanced Robotics and its Social Impacts (ARSO) will be held in BAICIRS, BIT.
